Surronded by the imposing peaks of the Tofana, the Monte Cristallo and the Sorapis Dolomites, Cortina d'Ampezzo is the ideal place for the winter sports. It hosts, in fact, a lot of international events, from the Ski World Cup to the Winter Polo on Snow.Cortina is composed by a central area and many hamlets; the first historic document in which the name Ampezzo is present dates back to 1156; in a document of 1317 the current name "Curtina Ampitii" is mentioned.In addition to the naturalistic beauties, Cortina d'Ampezzo is now a cultural location, thanks to the Regole d'Ampezzo Museums, which consists in three different museums: the Palaeontological Museum, at the first floor, the Ethnographic Museum, at the second one, and the Modern Art Museum, at the third one.
